The tournament was based in Ballymore, the home of rugby union in Queensland with games played at three different venues around the city.
The welcoming ceremony was held at the Brisbane Convention Centre, a short stroll from the team’s hotel across the river. The OTDs played a team from Linwood in Sydney in their opening encounter, a Japanese team who impressed with saki and finally the Surfers Paradise Gorillas, who didn’t impress with an awful port concoction.
New inductees, Bob Anthony, Les Shaw and Sean Hale, joined the Old Tassie Devils ranks with Bob coming up with a special batch of home made beer to mark the final game – much better than the Gorilla crap.
The boys showed patches of brilliance though it was agreed, some pre-tournament training might not have gone astray – maybe next time. The grand finale dinner was a lavish sit down affair in the convention centre.
Attendees to the Brisbane festival were Bob Anthony, Bill Armstrong, Fergie Baird, Diane Baird, Ron Bessell, Elisa Bessell, Clyde Eastaugh, Jan Eastaugh, Jeff Eustace, Sean Hale, Craig Henderson, Frances Ward, Solomon Henderson, Genevive Henderson, Gerry Horch, Graeme Jackson, Jeanette Jackson, Phil Kimber,J ohn Lake, Prue Lake, Chris Leslight, Belinda Saunders, Terry Wallach, Elspeth Mackay, Greg Middleton, Katherine Middleton, Bob Newman, Andy Oakham, Bob Reid, Elizabeth Reid, Merv Simmons, Helen Simmons, Paul Smith, Judy ball, Les Shaw and Andrew Younger.
